Experience
Athina is a Partner and Head of the Environmental, Social, Governance, Risk & Compliance (ESGRC) consulting department in Grant Thornton Greece. Athina has more than 20 years of professional experience which it has gained through the provision of auditing and consulting services to a variety of companies in the Public, Private and Financial Sectors. She specializes in Corporate Governance and Internal Control Systems, in evaluation or support the Compliance and Risk Management functions as well as in areas of improvement of Organizational structures and Operational Procedures.
During her career, she has led for over 12 years in Advisory Departments of Grant Thornton (BRS, Financial Services, ESGRC) and has managed large and numerous project teams, has participated in special workshops of exchange of views and consultation organized by the Supervisor of Greek banks and insurance companies (Bank of Greece) and has been a member of the Steering Strategy Committee of Grant Thornton International on issues of Financial Sector as well as the Public Sector at European Level.
She has offered her services to all Greek systemic banks, to a number of listed companies, the supervisors of the banking system and the ASE as well as to a variety of companies in the other financial sector such as AEPEY, MFMC, Payment Institutions, or other unlisted Small and Medium-sized Enterprises. For almost a decade she has been in charge of the projects of the Monitoring Trustee of two systemic banks for their compliance with their commitments and restructuring plans in the context of their recapitalization, on behalf of the European Commission.
In addition, she has participated either as an Engagement Partner or Quality Assurance Partner or as a Project Manager, in important projects of strategic planning, reorganization of companies, divisions or departments, in projects for the preparation or evaluation of Corporate Governance and Internal Control Systems, internal regulations, policies and internal procedures manuals, in projects for credit functions’ transformation and data quality improvement of credit files or in projects of reviewing and supporting the harmonization of companies with the Greek or other international regulatory frameworks, etc.
