Experience
Nikos Frydas is Principal in the Energy Department and Vice President of Grant Thornton Tax and Business Advisory Solutions SA. His career spans more than 30 years of international experience in the energy sector. He specializes in the Design and Regulation of competitive Electricity Markets, and in new Business Models for energy utilities in the energy transition era.
Mr. Frydas’ professional record includes working with major European Utilities (National Grid UK, PPC) and Energy Trading firms (EDF Trading, Merrill Lynch), and as member of the management team of ENTSO-E in Brussels. In the period of 2004-2007 he was appointed by the United Nations, as the first Chairman of the Regulatory Office of Kosovo, while subsequently he spent several years as senior staff member of the World Bank based in Belgrade. As Consultant he has led several major assignments in Europe, Africa and Central Asia working for projects sponsored by IFIs (EC, EBRD, IFC, WB), for public and private clients.
Nikos holds a BSc degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from DUTh (Greece), a MSc degree in Power Systems Engineering from University of Strathclyde (UK), and a MSc degree in Energy Economics and Regulation from University of Strathclyde. He holds also Certificates from London School of Economic and University Luigi Bocconi, for courses in Energy Regulation Economics.
Mr. Frydas is a Chartered Engineer in the UK’s Engineering Council, a Member of the Technical Chamber of Greece, as well as member of the International Association of Energy Economists. He is a regular visiting Lecturer of “ESCP Europe” in their London and Paris campuses.
